Fifth Third Bank

July Malware Fraud Alert

As of July 2009, there has been an increase in malware-related fraud. Malware is malicious software that can monitor the websites you are visiting. When logging into financial websites, the malware may display a fake login page to capture your login information. The malware may even be sophisticated enough to display the legitimate site's website address in the address bar.

Once your captured login information is sent to the criminals behind the malware, they are able to fraudulently log into your account and attempt to withdraw money.

Please note: In order to protect yourself from malicious software, maintain and run updated anti-virus, firewall, and browser software on your computer. Also, make sure your application software (such as iTunes, RealPlayer, etc. ) is up to date, and review your Internet and email software’s security settings. Be wary of visiting unknown websites and never let them install video drivers, codecs or other software.

Customers who supplied any personal data should call a Fifth Third Customer Service Professional at 1-800-676-5869.

Example of fraudulent login page:

The screenshot below looks similar to the legitimate Fifth Third Direct login page. However, there are some differences, such as this site asking for all three of your login credentials (ID, password, and token value) all on one screen.
