Fifth Third Overdraft Protection
Overdraft Protection uses funds from your existing Fifth Third savings account, credit card*, or line of credit* when linked to your Fifth Third checking account to help you avoid being overdrawn1. It may also allow you to make a Debit Card purchase if you do not have enough money in your checking account. Overdraft Protection may be an additional layer of security for you to help manage your everyday banking needs.
With Overdraft Protection, money for the overdraft is transferred from a Fifth Third account (savings, checking, credit card, line of credit) selected by you. There is a transfer charge. Enough money is transferred at the end of the day to cover the negative balance plus the transfer charge. For transfers from a savings or checking account, the exact amount of the negative balance plus the transfer charge is transferred.
For Credit Card and Line of Credit Transfers, there are minimum transfer amounts that apply:
- For transfers from a line of credit account, the greater of $100 or the exact amount of the negative balance plus the transfer charge is transferred from your line of credit account. Note that the amount transferred will be subject to the interest rate applicable to the line of credit.
- For transfers from a credit card account, the greater of $50 or the exact amount of the negative balance plus the transfer charge is transferred from your credit card. Note that the amount transferred will be subject to the cash advance interest rate applicable to the credit card.
How Much Does Overdraft Protection Cost If I Use The Service?
If you are enrolled in Overdraft Protection (where funds are automatically transferred from another one of your Fifth Third accounts to cover balance shortages) the charge will be:

One transfer is made at the end of the day to cover your negative balance.
